The LiveJournal Experiment
For the past few days, I've been posting to a LiveJournal blog instead of this one, in an experiment to see if the "friends page" feature of LJ can bring a bigger audience. I have no intention of abandoning the Analytical Engine at this time, and the "Lemuria Press" name is a placeholder, but I must say that I am sorely tempted to make the switch. Some things are simply easier on LiveJournal than they are on Blogger.

I've been using livejournal for a long time, and I haven't found anything better in terms of posting journal entries and getting interactive responses. I think there's an upper limit to the number of 'friends' you can have on one account, but it's not an issue if your entries are all made public.
It's slick and easy and I really enjoy using it.

Yeah, no kidding. Believe it or not, I chose one of the best free templates. Better looking journals, image hosting, and some other stuff Blogger gives you for free costs money on LJ, but after a week or so it's pretty obvious that there are a hell of a lot more people on it than blogger, and the "Friends Page" feature makes it easy to passively check in on all of the blogs that interest you.
I started blogging w/ Blogger, but a lot of my friends use LiveJournal, and I sattred posting over there last October myself.
But I still post to Blogger as well, and now I crosspost everything to Blogger and LiveJournal, and I've started posting to my MySpace page's blog as well.
I like LiveJournal's "Friends" feature the best, but in terms of sure amount of people that may actually read your stuff, I think MySpace might come out ahead.
You know, I've been thinking about doing the same switch for similar reasons as you, but I'm just not entirely convinced about LJ's interface. Is there a way to automate crossposting between Blogger and LJ? If I can post to LJ and generate an email of the post that I can reroute to Blogger (where I can post by email), then I'd be happy. I tried doing the manual crosspost, but it just wasn't working.
Just stay away from MySpace, who ever cobbled together that steaming pile of crap should be taken out and shot.

Hell yes! He is a fine American and exactly the sort of straight-talker that the country desperately needs. He reminds me of why I like Howard Dean and Russ Fiengold.
Eh? Excuse me, but what's so much better with LJ? Friends? Have nobody ever heard of RSS and newsfeeds? They work fine for keeping up with what's new on the blogs you care about.

If nothing else, Livejournal has a much more robust way of managing who can comment in your journal. But then who says you have to choose?
If you have friends and like to read the blog entries, you could always just use Google reader as a single location for all of your news sources. This is what I use, to keep track of all the goings ons.
