Welcome, EN Worlders!

So I posted a link to this site on EN World, and it caused a bit of a kerfuffle regarding some of the political commentary found within.

In brief, I started this blog as an outlet for writing and thoughts about the things that interest me in life. The first, obviously, is fantasy gaming, in the Dungeons & Dragons vein. But a funny thing happens when you manage two monthly gaming magazines and play in two weekly campaigns. Pretty soon, your life becomes pretty much "about" gaming, and you don't have a lot of time for other interests.

This blog is an attempt to post about the "fun" elements of gaming that I enjoy entirely apart from my job. It's also a place to post about other stuff I find interesting, which will from time to time include politics.

I don't expect all visitors to this blog to agree with my political views, or even appreciate them, which is why I have empowered all of the posts to the Analytical Engine with the comments feature. If you don't agree with something I've posted, I'd love to see you post an objection in my comments folders. This site, at its best, can develop into a dialog, and I'd like that very much.

I may eventually tag each post with a keyword, such as "gaming" or "politics," and set up the blog so that you can filter out topics that don't interest you. It's early days yet in terms of my familiarity with blogging and website creation, though, so I can't promise that this will happen swiftly.

So, without further ado, I'd like to invite anyone reading this to post a short message in the comments attached to this post, with a little bit of biographical information so I can know who's out there.

I'm curious to know who I'm talking to.

So, sound off, everyone!

Post whatever you want, and the hell with what anyone thinks. It's the internet.

You know me.

I'd be surprised if you get too many comments... God, this thing is a pain the butt to get an account on. Turn on anonymous comments or I'm not sure how many you'll actually get.

Erik,
many of us are interested in your perspective on things. I hold no illusions that our politics and personal beliefs will be different on some issues; frankly, I couldn't care less.

I recommend you go to Wil Wheaton's blog today and read or follow the links to the blogger burnout list, as a healthy reminder. The simplest rule is this: "If you start viewing your blog as a have to instead of a get to, then you're writing about the wrong things."

Stuff like the Ethergaunt material? Priceless. It's made me want to look at them again and re-evaluate them, instead of just skimming past them as I had, previously. Hell, I could run a whole Cthulu-esque campaign based on them. Very cool.

Post what you want to post about. Those who can't handle it don't have to read it.

Just wanted to add my voice in support. On your own site and being in a creative field you should be feel free to post whatever you want, especially if it produces intelligent discourse on the subject. Long live Warduke!

Politically speaking I tend more to the moderate.
Are you familiar with Bernie Sanders, Erik? I think you would find his comments pretty insightful. His speech before the "Take Back America" conference was great. Unfortunately there are too few politicians like him.

Just the average 35 year old SWM who worships the Greyhawk ground you walk on, and was entirely pleased to find your blog out of the blue the other day. Now I'm a regular.

Thanks for the great blog, Erik. I enjoy your posts, don't agree with the politics, and wouldn't want you to change a thing. In fact, your blog has inspired me to start my own. Thanks for your hard work and love of Greyhawk--keep it up!

I started a blog as a the result of reading this one too. . . haven't posted anything of value yet, but I think I'm going to enjoy the process.

I am quite interested in your political opinions, and found your recommendations for reading Noam Chomsky to be quite helpful. Looking forward to reading more of him, as well as your blogs.

My name's Chris, BTW.

I've been lurking around the Paizo boards since Dungeon 124 came out, reading up on the new adventure path.

Major kudos on a job very well done. I'm going to be running it for my group tonight. I've never been interested in Greyhawk before now. Thanks for intriguing me to try something different.

Here-here, and all that. I've only read this first post so far, but I saw a reference to Chomsky, and that's an incredibly good thing. :-) I have a feeling I'm gonna like your politics.

I'm Jim Temple, from Seattle, and I'm addicted to Hawk.

Yes, well, the symptoms are obvious, Jim. You did name yourself after the Demiurge, after all.

Enjoy your stay.

I've been a non-relivant member of enWorld for some time.
An American, I live outside of the US, partially because I don't want to deal with the politics there (which includes frustration with people on the left and on the right, but I do strongly agree that the GOP redistricting stunt in Texas was dumb).

While I won't admit to any sort of worship, and I don't find Dragon very useful (except Keith Bakers articles about Eberron), I think that Dungeon is almost a criminally good magazine (as in, it makes purchasing other DnD products seem like a waste of money).

As I am perpetually strapped for time I tend to just line Dungeon adventures up and run people through them. Though I enjoyed Shackled City (the last adventure was very strong) I think that the gritty way that the Age of Worms is starting out looks very promising.
It isn't just an attempt to prove that the Century Worm wasn't a silly monster, was it ;)

I'm an Aussie with little interest or knowledge of politics, so I won't comment about that. But the D&D stuff is priceless Erik!

I missed the link on EN World, but found your blog anyway. ;)

Given your workload, it's understandable that you wouldn't want to talk gaming all the time! I freelance alongside my day job, so for me talking about gaming is a form of relaxation.

As far as tagging your posts goes, it's actually a bit of a pain in the butt with Blogger. Blogger doesn't have an inbuilt means of setting up categories, and the only workarounds I've seen are either a) too technical for me or b) weird, like setting up a separate blog for each category.
